Do their roots expand like eucalyptus%26#039; for example, and cause damage to walls and buildings?
Is it dangerous to plant ginkgo biloba close to a house wall?
http://www.xs4all.nl/~kwanten/roots.htm
Don%26#039;t plant any tree closer than the maximum expected spread of the crown.
Reply:They have huge fleshy roots that are very invasive. Plant well away of the foundation and not over or near sewage pipes.
Reply:You always want to plant a tree at least 6 feet from your house, for a variety of reasons.

Ginkgo biloba Plus?
have anyone tried it? does it really work?
i%26#039;m taking it now ,but i dont see any improvment ?
BTW its a Dietary supplement (GNC)
Ginkgo biloba Plus?
Ginkgo Biloba is one of those supplements that works almost immediately. If you haven%26#039;t noticed any improvement then you probably won%26#039;t over time. Try going off the Ginkgo for a few days and see if you notice any difference.
You might also try taking fish oil and increasing your water intake to 1/2 your body weight, divided by 2, in fluid ounces per day. A brain that is dehydrated will not be sharp.
Remember too that proper rest is essential for brain function!
Reply:If you want a great brain health product or memory enhancer, check out Brain Complex from Healthline. I use this product and get great results. Website is www.healthline.cc
Reply:I%26#039;ve never tried it, but it%26#039;s got a fair amount of a few different ingredients that are good for brain health. The problem is that different people respond differently to different products, so it may not work as well for you as it may for someone else.
I personally take Ginkgo Biloba (along with thousands of our customers), and I get a lot of benefits for memory and focus. If you don%26#039;t respond very well to Ginkgo, you may not notice much difference... heck, I didn%26#039;t notice a difference until I realized that I hadn%26#039;t forgotten a few things I commonly forgot in a while. LOL!
Also, most supplements can take up to 2-4 weeks to notice some of the benefits, but that primarily depends on your body chemistry.

some info for you:
Remedies For:
Symptomatic relief of organic brain dysfunction
Intermittent Claudification
Vertigo (vascular origin)
Tinnitus (vascular origin)
It is useful for disturbed brain functions, which result in dizziness, tinnitus, and headache with emotional lability and anxiety. Ginkgo has also been demonstrated to improve concentration and memory deficits as a result of peripheral arterial occlusive disease.
Other Applications:
Alzheimer%26#039;s disease
Atherosclerosis
Cerebrovascular insufficiency
Congestive heart failure
Depression
Diabetes
Impotence/infertility (male)
Intermittent claudication
Macular degeneration
Migraine headaches
Multiple sclerosis
Raynaud%26#039;s phenomenon
GBE and Circulation:
GBE increases circulation to both the brain and extremities of the body. In addition to inhibiting platelet stickiness, GBE regulates the tone and elasticity of blood vessels. In other words, it makes circulation more efficient. This improvement in circulation efficiency extends to both large vessels (arteries) and smaller vessels (capillaries) in the circulatory system.
Antioxidant Properties:
GBE may have antioxidant properties in the brain, retina of the eye, and the cardiovascular system. Its antioxidant activity in the brain and central nervous system may help prevent age-related declines in brain function. GBE%26#039;s antioxidant activity in the brain is of particular interest. The brain and central nervous system are particularly susceptible to free radical attack. Free radical damage in the brain is widely accepted as being a contributing factor in many disorders associated with aging, including Alzheimer%26#039;s disease.
Nerve Protection and PAF Inhibition:
One of the primary protective effects of the ginkgolides are their ability to inhibit a substance known as platelet-activating factor (PAF). PAF is a mediator released from cells that causes platelets to aggregate (clump together). High amounts of PAF are associated with damage to nerve cells, poor blood flow to the central nervous system, inflammatory conditions, and bronchial constrictions. Much like free radicals, higher PAF levels are also associated with aging. Ginkgolides and bilobalide protect nerve cells in the central nervous system from damage during periods of ischemia (lack of oxygen to tissues in the body). This effect may be supportive for persons who have suffered a stroke.
Anti-Aging Properties
Ginkgo increases blood flow to the brain and has excellent restorative effects on the nervous system. Hundreds of scientific studies, involving tens of thousands of patients, attest to the effectiveness of Ginkgo biloba extract for the many problems associated with cerebral vascular insufficiency and impaired mental performance in elderly patients. The active components of Ginkgo biloba have a profound tonic effect on the mind and body. GBE has been shown to inhibit the reuptake of norepinephrine, serotonin, dopamine, and acetylcholine, important neurotransmitters in the brain. The extract acts as an antioxidant and a nerve cell membrane stabilizer. It also enhances oxygen and glucose utilization and increases blood flow in arteries, veins, and capillaries. Experiments involving learned helplessness and behavioral despair in laboratory animals demonstrated that GBE exhibited some antianxiety and antidepressant activities.
Ginkgo is of benefit for many of the presumed symptoms of aging such as:
Anxiety and depression
Memory impairment
Poor concentration, decreased alertness
Diminished intellectual capacity
Vertigo, headache
Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
Macular degeneration ( the most common cause of blindness in adults)
Inner ear disturbances (which can cause partial deafness)
Poor circulation in the extremities
Impotence due to impaired penile blood flow
Clinical Trials And Proof of Efficacy:
In October, 1997 JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) published research showing that Ginkgo biloba extract appears to slow Alzheimer%26#039;s disease. The randomly assigned, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was performed for one year by neurologist Dr. Pierre L. LeBars and a team of scientists at the New York Institute for Medical Research. The study found that 27 percent of patients who took 120 mg of ginkgo extract for six months or longer improved their mental functioning, including memory, reasoning, and the ability to learn, compared to only 14 percent of those taking placebo. The study began with 309 patients aged 45 or older with most suffering from Alzheimer%26#039;s disease but also some with dementia caused by strokes. The study showed that ginkgo can stabilize or even improve mental performance in one-third of those who are mildly impaired by Alzheimer%26#039;s.
German studies have demonstrated that 240 mg of Egb761 (the particular form of Ginkgo biloba extract used in the JAMA study) a day is perhaps more effective than the 120 mg daily dose used in the JAMA study for the treatment of Alzheimer%26#039;s.
Other studies on ginkgo have appeared in such diverse journals as Lancet, Audiology, and the Journal of Urology. Over 120,000 physicians worldwide write over ten million prescriptions for ginkgo each year, accounting for over five hundred million dollars in sales.
Dosage:
Many people take 120-160 mg of GBE, standardized to contain 6% terpene lactones and 24% flavone glycosides, two to three times per day. Amounts up to 240 mg per day are used by some people with cerebrovascular insufficiency, confusion and memory loss, and resistant depression. GBE may need to be taken for six to eight weeks before desired effects are noticed. Ginkgo may also be taken as a tincture of 0.5 ml three times daily.
Safety:
Ginkgo extract is considered relatively safe and remarkably free of side effects when taken as directed. Some people who take extremely large doses may have diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and restlessness. If this should occur, reduce the dosage. If side effects are severe, discontinue it. Ginkgo biloba extract acts as a blood thinner by inhibiting platelets from clumping together, so it could be unsafe for patients who are taking aspirin or other blood thinners. In Europe, ginkgo extract is prescribed in lower doses ( 40 mg daily) for patients who are taking aspirin or anticoagulants for circulatory problems.
There are no known contraindications to the use of GBE by pregnant and lactating women.
It is important to remember that circulatory conditions in the elderly can involve serious disease. Individuals should seek proper medical care and accurate medical diagnosis prior to self-prescribing GBE
Reply:I used to take the herb in its raw form it is very expensive so I can not tell you the dosage but the effects were wonderful. I reacted quicker my memory became clearer. It was altogether a good experience.
Reply:Its for brain health BUT be careful since its a blood thinner which can cause you to bleed easier or bruise easier.
Reply:Ginkgo Biloba is primarily for brain health and memory support. I%26#039;ve taken it for about the last 2 years, and I notice a HUGE difference if I don%26#039;t take it. With me, I have a clearer thought process and my general memory is much better. I%26#039;ve heard of people that get benefits for their short term memory, long term memory, or faster recall.... but different people have different responses for every supplement.
Most doses from most brands are 60 mg of an extract standardized to 24% Flavone Glycosides and 6% Terpene Lactones. Some have more, hardly any have less.

The ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) or maidenhair tree, is the only living member of the Ginkgophyta, which dates back some 286 million years ago. There are both male and female plants and the female fruits have a very disagreeable odor, so male trees are preferred for gardening. Ginkgo nuts are the seeds of this tree, and roasted ginkgo nuts are a delicacy in China and Japan. They are available fresh or canned (shelled, skinned and parboiled) and are used it stir fries, soups and stews.
The largest Ginkgo farm in the world is in Sumter, South Carolina.

Can I take ginkgo biloba when pregnant?
That%26#039;s a BIG NO ! No herbs, just pre-natal vitamins while PG !
Can I take ginkgo biloba when pregnant?
If you were talking about the pill form, then no. It%26#039;s too concentrated in dosage. Ginkgo Biloba is a type of nut/fruit with a hard white shell. The flesh is yellow and the Chinese people put it in their desserts or soups sometimes. Pregnant Chinese women eat it too but as far as I know it%26#039;s not advisable to have it too often as it is a YIN food (which has cooling properties.). This nut/fruit is still mild compared to the concentrated pill form. So it%26#039;s better that you stop taking it.
Reply:I personally would not take anything that is not regulated by the FDA while nursing or pregnant. There have been no major studies on the effects of herbs during pregnancy since it is not regulated by the FDA. Best thing to do is contact you OB/GYN and ask them. Better safe than sorry. Good Luck!

Can ginkgo biloba be taken with EFA(flaxseed oil, borage oil, primrose oil, etc)?
Since they all have properties of blood circulation, any interaction if take them together ?......thanks a lot.
Can ginkgo biloba be taken with EFA(flaxseed oil, borage oil, primrose oil, etc)?
Yes, they can. I%26#039;ve been taking some of those together for almost 2 years, and there%26#039;s no problem at all as long as you%26#039;re not taking too many things to increase your circulation.
While Ginkgo and Fish Oil increase circulation, they don%26#039;t increase it enough to give much of anyone a problem, although some people taking drugs that alter circulation (or those taking a few natural products that affect circulation) may have an issue with too much support for circulation.
When in doubt, ask a pharmacist or doctor if you could safely take those with any drugs you%26#039;re taking, and they%26#039;ll be able to tell you if there%26#039;s any interactions by accessing a database they have access to.
Reply:We are not talking man made drugs here. So yes they can. You just need to watch the dosage recommendation by the manufacture. A good fish oil can also be used and alternate take one one day and another the next.
You don%26#039;t have near the dangers and side effects as you do with man made crap.

But if you%26#039;re drinking green tea for the health benefits of antioxidants... then it%26#039;s really a matter of what tastes best for you.

Has Ginkgo Biloba actually been proven to enhance memory and concentration?
You find it all over the place marketed as a memory enhancer.. etc. but there is always that little asterisk that says %26quot;these statements have not been approved by the FDA%26quot;. So have any credible randomized control trials actually proved a mental benefit from Gingko Biloba?
Has Ginkgo Biloba actually been proven to enhance memory and concentration?
The vast majority of trials that showed that it have a mental benefit were funded by a company that sells it, which calls their credibility into question.
A study funded by the Institute for Aging in 2002 on patients over 60 years of age showed that there was no improvement in memory from using it.
Other studies have shown an improvement in healthy individuals, though the improvement lasts for only a few hours. Also, chronic usage appears to induce a tolerance, and the affect disappears. Only rare, acute usage provides any benefit.
Many items that claim to contain the product use less than any of the studies that have shown an effect.
A quick search of journal articles pulls up a long list of professionally done studies involving gingko biloba. Most are irrelevant to the question at hand, and look at using the herb in the treatment of individuals with specific conditions, such as multiple sclerosis, alzheimer%26#039;s, and dementia. Overall, they found no effect on improving these conditions (though I did not read all of them).
It looks like research is ongoing and not fully conclusive.

Does ginkgo biloba help prevent mitochondrial aging and extend lifespan?
I remember hearing or reading that it prevented the aging of mitochondria, and allowed the mitochondria to remain youthful looking into old age, and that it also extended lifespan in animals(including some mammals.).
Is this true? Also if true what dose was used, and what would be the human equivalent dose to achieve life extension(assuming it is effective in humans as well)?
Does ginkgo biloba help prevent mitochondrial aging and extend lifespan?
Hi Darian. There are several scientific studies showing Ginkgo Biloba extract EGb 761 given in vitro (in cell studies) has positive effects on Mitochondria. Whether these effects occur in vivo (in live human beings) requires further research.
Best wishes.

Can ginkgo biloba pills cause death?
They can if there is a drug interaction. Ask your pharmacist. Pharmacists know everything about the drug.
Can ginkgo biloba pills cause death?
No, only if you got some contaminated product, which by the way is possible.
If you are going to take ginkgo or any other supplements, research the brand carefully. http://www.nutritionaltree.com is a great UNBIASED place to research different brands and see how they are working for people.
Reply:It%26#039;s not likely but Ginko does thin the blood so it%26#039;s always good to discuss with your doctor prior to trying any new nutritional. The doctor may not agree it%26#039;s needed and that%26#039;s fine, just ask if it would be safe for you to use.
Keep in mind that many doctors don%26#039;t recommend natural supplements perhaps because they are not trained in this area.
Reply:If you follow the bottle%26#039;s recommendations, no. Granted, part of the bottle%26#039;s recommendations are to check with your healthcare practitioner if you are taking any prescriptions or have any medical conditions. Certain drugs or medical conditions may have adverse effects (up to and including death), so you should always check on that first. As long as you do that and don%26#039;t take a bottle or two at a time, you shouldn%26#039;t have to worry about death from Ginkgo.
The only exception to that is the astronomically slight possibility of a severe allergic reaction to it. Very few people are allergic to it, and possibly one in several trillion could be deathly allergic to it.

Ginkgo Biloba enhances memory and concentration by increasing blood flow to the brain?
What do you think?
Ginkgo Biloba enhances memory and concentration by increasing blood flow to the brain?
Actually increases blood flow to the extremities -- fingers, toes -- a peripheral vasodilator. It also works well to alleviate bronchospasm and is a circulatory stimulant.
Ginkgo can help with ED caused by heart meds, helps thin the blood, sometimes helps with tinnitus (ears ringing). Can help with headache, low energy, varicose veins, memory, leg cramps -- anything to do with empaired circulation.
All this has been documented and is reported in JAM, Vol. 6, No. 2.
Use to help memory has had results pro and con...so the jury%26#039;s still out. Good effects in some early onset Alzheimer%26#039;s cases. Most younger folks who try it are suffering mostly from stress and I don%26#039;t think it would help in such an instance. Maybe if combined with a stress reliever like Chamomile or Passion Flower.
Reply:Janet S is right, but she didn%26#039;t make it very clear that the head is an extremity. Ginkgo does help with circulation to the brain as well as the fingers and toes.
Since it increases circulation to the head in general, it can help for brain health, ear health, and even eye health. Plus, we%26#039;ve got thousands of customers that take Ginkgo for brain support and memory... most of them report benefits for memory or the general ability to think. I also take it myself and noticed a marked improvement in my long-term memory within a couple weeks. Give it a try and see how it feels!
Reply:both oldtimekid2 and Janet S had given great answers. however, please let me to add that ginkgo is primarily good for our arteries and blood stream or blood circulation. due to this capabilities ginkgo biloba extracts can also protect us from dangerous heart problem or heart attack and from the scary kidney malfunction that can lead some body to the routine and costly dialysis.

Ginkgo and cynads have broad leaves?
whereas those of pines are needle like. Can anybody suggest any significance of this in term of the climates and habitats involved?
Ginkgo and cynads have broad leaves?
Well, if you think about it, your environment shapes the physical demands of a structure (be it animal or plant).
Ginkgos are in warmer climates, therefore, they can afford to have broad leaves for a lot of gas exchange and water movement.
However, the pines or conifers tend to live in much colder climates, where it would be dangerous to have broad leaves.
Not only would having broad leaves be disadvantageous, but it would be fatal to the plant in such low temperatures.
The Xylem in a plant that carries the water throughout the tree also carries water throughout the leaves. If pines had larger leaves, there would be much more water content, and a larger chance of freezing. Pines use small needles in order to sustain themselves in colder weather where broad leaves would just die.

Is it safe for my son, a 14 year old, to take centrum performance? It contains ginseng, and ginkgo..?
Yes, I think it%26#039;s safe as long as used as directed/recommended.
Remember, it%26#039;s always the wrong/over dose that kills! So try not to abuse it.

Reply:If it is not necessary I would advise against taking the supplements. If you are interested in having him take ginseng and ginkgo biloba, it might be better to ask the doctor for appropriate single supplements (i.e. just plain ginseng or ginkgo) without the additional vitamins and minerals he should be getting from fruits and vegetables. Ginseng is also very common in traditional chinese medicine so that is another route you can go in finding what the best way for your son to take these supplements.
Reply:If it%26#039;s FDA approved, then it%26#039;s ok- otherwise, it wouldnt be on the shelf. I think that ginseng and ginko are pretty ineffective either way.

How many will agree with me that the Tree of Knowledge is the Ginkgo tree?
The fruit and nuts are edible. It takes two trees for one to bare fruit. The leaves are in the shape of a fan and three form a full circle. The Genko leaf is harvested in early spring dried like tobacco and makes a tea that will work the mind in the form of dreams without harm or dependance. Ginkgo Biloa, native to China
How many will agree with me that the Tree of Knowledge is the Ginkgo tree?
Absolutely correct. The compounds in the Leaves are food for the brain. You are not borne with all the knowledge in the world and life is too short to learn from your mistakes, you must learn from others and one of them is what to consume in order to bring health and well being to the body that you inhabit.

Reply:I think the original tree of knowledge was destroyed in the Flood.
Reply:No, I dont think its still available to us.

I am 20 years old and in college and was wondering if taking Ginkgo Biloba pills from GNC will help me?
Different things work for different people. I don%26#039;t know of any reason not to try it. Some people can have bad reactions to different things, but compared to anything your doctor will give you, these reactions are rare.
I%26#039;m 23 and I take it to try to help combat the side effects of birth control. Within the time of taking the pill, I have noticed a sharp decline in my mental acuity, and yes, this is a listed side effect.
Some pointers: 120mg per day, divided into two doses (60mg in the morning, 60mg at night). When buying the supplement, look for 24% ginkgoflavonglycosides. Give the supplement 6-8 months before deciding whether or not to continue taking it.
Research of your own is also advised to tailor to any specific conditions that you may have, or any prescription meds you might be taking, etc.
Dr. Mercola%26#039;s website also has lots of articles with pointers to help with mental acuity. This might be worth checking out as well (www.mercola.com).

Expert plant or tree people? Should I "top" or cut down a ginkgo tree?
My hubby and I are arguing. Please help. The previous owner of our house planted three ginkgo trees in the back yard. I want to keep the trees because they are endangered (and really neat). The problem is that the trees are planted underneath an overhead wire running to our neighbor%26#039;s house. There%26#039;s only one of the trees that is growing too fast. I would like to cut off about 2.5 feet at the very top of this tree. My husband wants to completely remove the tree. The trees are too big to dig up and move, but they have only been planted for about 3-4 years. Is it possible to remove the top 2.5 feet or should we cut down the tree?
Thanks in advance for your help! :)

See at this link for it%26#039;s root system.

You can also see on that website that the trees are also cut right down yearly, perhaps that%26#039;s something to think about?
Reply:Well you could always try it and if it doesnt work then remove it.
Most trees, plants you do not want to remove more than 1/3 of the plant when trimming or you may kill it..
Reply:take the tops down so you can keep them. are you sure that a tree company couldn%26#039;t transplant them in another part of your yard once they are topped? ask, they might be able to. if not you%26#039;ll just have to keep them trimmed down if you want them
Reply:Ginkgo%26#039;s endangered? New one on me. If it%26#039;s underneath a power line, DO NOT try to do anything yourself. You need a certified arborist who is specifically trained for working near power lines. I%26#039;m certified to do regular trimming work, but I%26#039;m not allowed to do any work on anything closer then 10 feet to a power line.
Plus, do not top it. The arborist can reduce the canopy, and train it to grow away from the lines for awhile. If they still recommend topping it, remove it. Topping will cause more damage then good.

Medical Expertise Please: What Harmful Effects Can Be Caused By Taking Ginkgo Biloba During Pregnancy?
I understand that the herbal supplement Ginkgo Biloba assists in easing depression and promoting mental acuity. Information I%26#039;d reserached even supported taking the herb during pregnancy to encourage prenatal brain development. I had been taking 2 capsules (120mg) regularly prior to my pregnancy, but recently, I cautiously took only one and only once. Now I%26#039;m finding information that actually cautions against taking the herb during pregnancy. What major harm and/or symptoms typically result from taking Gingko Biloba while pregnant? Could I have already done any irreparable damage? Thanks.
Medical Expertise Please: What Harmful Effects Can Be Caused By Taking Ginkgo Biloba During Pregnancy?
The only thing I have seen that can result from taking Gingko Biloba during pregnancy is an increased risk of bleeding. The site cautioned against using it closer to labor because bleeding time after labor would be prolonged which could lead to complications. There is also a risk that the fetus wouldn%26#039;t develop properly because the colchiline found in gingko collects in the womb, the same way that caffiene does. This is only a problem if you take more than reccomended, but since you only took one you should be fine.
You should be careful about taking herbs and herbal teas during pregnancy as many herbs that seem safe can be detrimental.
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
Reply:This is what I found about it: %26quot;Ginkgo biloba is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It contains a substance called colchicine, which may be harmful to the fetus.%26quot; Various different websites stated that same information. Hope this helps!
Reply:hey, honestly in my opinion, u should refrain from taking anything that ur doc didn%26#039;t prescribe u or didn%26#039;t give u the o.k. to take. especially that anything can harm ur baby without u knowing.
i never asked about ginkgo baloba, but i can imagine it%26#039;s not helping ur fetus grow. i advise u speak to ur obstetrician .he/she can tell u better than anyone else can. also if ur motherly instinct is making u feel unsure about anything ur doing or not doing u should always trust that first, it%26#039;s a very powerful source we as mothers have, so u should always use it. i hope u discontinued taking them.
folic acid, iron and omega-3 is what u should b taking. get ur doc to prescribe them for u, these r very important in aiding ur babies development god bless and congrats on ur love bump! take care
Reply:Okay, sorry to laugh, but asking for medical expertise on yahoo answers? Please tell me you don%26#039;t take YA%26#039;s this seriously. Call and talk to your doctor before doing anything, no matter where you get your info from always always talk to your doctor FIRST!
Reply:The main risk is that these products are not monitored for potency or purity so you never really know what dose you are taking.
But specifically, Gingko can cause bleeding - anything from nosebleed to severe bleeding. This could be extremely dangerous for you and your baby.
Better not to risk it, don%26#039;t you think?

Is Adderall and Piracetam or Adderall and Ginkgo biloba safe to take together?
I am currently taking Adderall IR (instant release) 10MG twice daily, with Ginkgo Biloba. I was reading about Piracetam, and was thinking about buying it. Could these be a harmful combination?
Is Adderall and Piracetam or Adderall and Ginkgo biloba safe to take together?
Yes, they are completely safe to take together! Gingko Biloba is a clean, pure, condensed form of a type of root. It will not interact with any kind of medication you are taking. :)

Is it true that if you ginkgo for a long time, its effects eventually taper off?
...and i also heard that taking it on the days when you need it is a best way to take ginkgo..
please.. i just wanna confirm these claims.

Is it true that if you ginkgo for a long time, its effects eventually taper off?
there are no scientific evidence to support any answer, ginkco is a herbal medicine, better yet - it%26#039;s a fruit. It is like eating 1 or 1000 apples a day, and eventually, you have to go to your doctor for a consult when you get sick.
Reply:It is true that there is no evidence to support the benefits of gingko. Remember that many pharmaceutical drugs are made from herbal compounds (although I%26#039;m pretty sure none contain gingko), but using herbal supplements over-the-counter can be dangerous because many have side effects that the manufacturer doesn%26#039;t tell you. For example, gingko is a blood thinner and should not be used for extended periods of time (no longer than 2 weeks). The theory behind gingko is that if it thins the blood, it helps increase blood circulation to the brain for improved memory. Unfortunately, many elderly take gingko with the belief that since it%26#039;s available over-the-counter and an all-natural product, it won%26#039;t harm them. However, the elderly are generally the ones on anticoagulants (Coumadin, Warfarin, etc.) or aspirin therapy and they don%26#039;t need anything else to thin their blood. If you%26#039;re looking for a supplement that doesn%26#039;t have any side effects and helps with circulation problems, try Grape Seed Extract. No known toxicities, and no harmful side effects. It is used for ischemia, which is poor blood flow, and you will get better results than with gingko. As a few added bonuses, it%26#039;s also good for varicose veins and is beneficial to the heart.
Reply:There is scant evidence that %26quot;ginkgo%26quot; does anything other than shrink the wallet. Think about it, people in China have been using it for over FIFTEEN centuries, do they have any better memory than any other population? No, they apparently don%26#039;t.
The only studies that have shown beneficial effects are those conducted (surprise!) by companies trying to market ginkgo as a product.
That said, they are very cool trees! (Unless you get a fruiting one!), and are apparently quite good at poisoning small animals because of the MPN (4-methoxypyridoxine) they contain!

How long do you think, ginkgo biloba will take in effect.?
I%26#039;ve just started to take ginkgo biloba to better my memory. I was just wondering how long before I see it%26#039;s effects, if any.
thanks
How long do you think, ginkgo biloba will take in effect.?
Unfortunately, that%26#039;s impossible to say. Different people respond differently to different supplements, so it could be a few days or a few weeks. Most people see most of the benefits from most supplements within a month or so.
When I started taking it, I didn%26#039;t even realize it for 4-5 weeks. It dawned on me one day that I hadn%26#039;t had trouble remembering as many things for the past few weeks before then, and I%26#039;ve been taking it ever since (with a MUCH improved memory). LOL!

What are the sources of ginkgo?
The Ginkgo, frequently misspelled as %26quot;Gingko%26quot;, and also known as the Maidenhair Tree, is a unique tree with no close living relatives. It is classified in its own division, the Ginkgophyta, comprising the single class Ginkgoopsida, order Ginkgoales, family Ginkgoaceae, genus Ginkgo and is the only extant species within this group. It is one of the best known examples of a living fossil. In the past it has also been placed in the divisions Spermatophyta or Pinophyta. Ginkgo is a gymnosperm: its seeds are not protected by an ovary wall. The apricot-like structures produced by female ginkgo trees are technically not fruits, but are the seeds having a shell that consists of a soft and fleshy section (the sarcotesta), and a hard section (the sclerotesta).
For centuries it was thought to be extinct in the wild, but is now known to grow wild in at least two small areas in Zhejiang province in eastern China, in the Tian Mu Shan Reserve. However, as this area has known human activity for over a thousand years, the wild status of ginkgos there is uncertain.

How much do I have to take 'Ginkgo Biloba' each day?
How much do I have to take %26#039;Ginkgo Biloba%26#039; each day?
If you do know what Ginkgo Biloba is.
How much do I have to take %26#039;Ginkgo Biloba%26#039; each day?
First of all, are you taking any other medications? Like aspirin, warfarin, or an MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitor). If you are, don%26#039;t EVEN think of taking Ginkgo Biloba! I hope you are a %26quot;Mr%26quot; because pregnant women should see a doctor before taking Ginkgo Biloba.
I wouldn%26#039;t advise you to take more than 120mg per day, so that depends on how much is in the capsule you are already taking. 60mg morning and evening should do it.
Ginkgo Biloba is an extract of the Ginkgo Biloba leaf. It%26#039;s a large diciduous tree that comes from China. The Ginkgo tree is also refered to as a Maidenhair tree because the leaves resemble the Maidenhair fern.
Ginkgo extract contain a flavonoid called Ginkgo Flavone Glycoside and Terpine Lactone. Flavonoids are considered as antioxidants and protects against oxidative and free radical damage to cells. In this way Ginkgo Biloba helps maintain a healthy blood flow to the brain for mental clarity and memory retention. Vinpocetine is added to most extracts to support brain function and activation of the cerebral metabolism.
Ginkgo side effects and cautions include possible increased risk of bleeding, gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, dizziness, and restlessness if taken in large quantities.
Here is a website from the Maryand Medical Center: http://www.umm.edu/altmed/ConsHerbs/Gink...
As a side note: The Ginkgo survived the atomic blast at Hiroshima, Japan. Four trees growing between 1–2 km were among the few living things to survive the blast.
Reply:Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) is a vasodilator used to increase circulatory oxygenation to brain cells, which may help with Alzheimer%26#039;s disease, asthma, depression, attention deficit disorder, blood clots, dementia, kidney disease, memory loss, respiratory disease, senility, stress, tinnitus, and vascular disease.
Reply:2 capsles in the morning and 2 in the evening
Reply:Do not exceed one tablet a day, it is not a core nutrient. It is a supplement. Thre are arguements if it really has any effect on you. I take supplements, I have taken it. If you take other things, such as medications, etc, stick to one capsule per day. If your looking for more alertness, try stabilized oxygen.

Ginkgo biloba side effects?
Hey guys,
I’ve been taking GinkGold (GINKGO (Ginkgo biloba) for a few days now and I’m feeling like all my senses have been enhance. I was wondering if this was normal or it was something else. Also do you guys happen to know the side effects for this?
Ginkgo biloba side effects?
Some of the most frequent ginkgo biloba side effects are represented by headaches, bad temper, anxiety, diarrhea and nausea. In rare cases, people develop an allergy to ginkgo biloba. No matter the situation, when the ginkgo biloba side effects become visible, it is imperative to consult a doctor.
People who have blood circulation problems must not use ginkgo biloba. This herb is known to alter the platelets. By changing the blood cellular structures that help in the coagulation of the blood, ginkgo biloba decreases the clotting speed. Aspirin and warfarin are some of the most common anti-coagulants.
These substances must never be taken when following a treatment based on this herb, because the ginkgo biloba side effects will appear in most of the cases. When both anti-coagulants and ginkgo biloba are used, the risk to have a hemorrhage is higher. Furthermore, the bleeding will last longer, as the platelets are not able to help the blood clot properly.
In more sensible patients, ginkgo biloba side effects such as gastrointestinal discomfort may be noticed. Also, pregnant women are recommended to follow a different treatment, as ginkgo biloba may lead to undesired complications.
Ginkgo biloba is widely used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, as well as in the treatment of many other memory problems. The memory loss is provoked in most of the cases by depression. In this particular case, it is better to treat the depression by not using monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Such medication interacts with ginkgo biloba and leads to the appearance of the ginkgo biloba side effects.
Spontaneous hyphema is also one of the ginkgo biloba side effects. This represents a hemorrhage in the anterior chamber of the eye. However, this side effect occurs seldom.
Reply:Ginko has great antioxidant properties so it should help rid your body of toxins from free radicals. The only warning I%26#039;ve ever heard was for people taking anti-coagulants(blood thinners).

How expensive is GINKGO BILOBA?
I know this sounds lame but I%26#039;m only 15. I have a GPA of a 4.0--freshman...but I find it difficult to have good memory (long term). I want to remember everything, mainly in complex courses such as science, especially when finals come around. Will Ginkgo optimise my brain function in memory or is there a better vitamin to take for my age? My friend says that she doesn%26#039;t even study, she just had very good memory and she has a 4.0 GPA also; while I work my butt off for it.
How expensive is GINKGO BILOBA?
First, Gingo Biloba is not expensive, you can purchase it at Walmart. Second, there are so many different variables that could make someone have to study more or less to retain the same information; don%26#039;t sweat it.
Reply:People are different when it comes to studying and remembering things. You just have to find your way to remember things. Maybe you can recall pictures, and things you wrote down. So when you%26#039;re studying, write things down. Maybe reading is your thing, so read it plenty of times. You%26#039;re only 15 and have plenty of time to figure out what works for you. Try asking your parents.. see what worked for them.
And Ginkgo is not expensive, depending on the brand 10-15 dollars for a good sized bottle.

If I Eat Ginkgo Biloba, Will It Reverse The Negative Memory Effects Of Marijuana Use?
Since Ginkgo Biloba has been proven to significantly improve memory, if I smoke marijuana, will it reverse the negative effects that marijuana has on the memory?
If I Eat Ginkgo Biloba, Will It Reverse The Negative Memory Effects Of Marijuana Use?
I seriously doubt it. The memory effects of grass go away if you go sober for about a month. I only smoke once a week now to conserve... it gets you higher, you dont have to worry about building a tolerance, you save money, and it keeps your memory going. i used to smoke daily, and i still occasionally binge, but i highly recommend going the once a week route if you have any questions about its mental effects.

Can you take Ginkgo Biloba and Red Bull in one day?
I need to prepare for an exam in 2 weeks.
say...ginkgo in the morning and red bull in the afternoon...
Can red bull help to lift your mood? like an antidepressant?
Can you take Ginkgo Biloba and Red Bull in one day?
Hi Yellow Room, using Ginkgo Biloba and Red Bull in one day is risk for your health. Ginkgo Biloba has been found effective in increasing the circulation of blood throughout the body including the brain.
Red Bull energy drinks is its caffeine content. Caffeine works by blocking one of the neurotransmitters - adenosine - which normally tells brain cells to calm down. Brain cells that have been affected by caffeine will remain excited and on high alert for several hours.
A Ginkgo Biloba can revitalize your brain, but Red Bull giving you the caffeine jitters and anxiety.
If you already have health problems, you first have to ask your doctor if it fine for you to take energy drinks and Ginkgo Biloba. Experts advice are still the best advice of all.

Another fav. was no doze all it is-is a lot of caffeine. However when I did want to go to sleep it was difficult. Just be careful and listen to your body. If you start to feel sick or other abnormalities, stop taking it!
Reply:You can take them together, but Ginko Biloba will increase your blood circulation.
Red Bull will increase your energy temporarily. It does not act like an antidepressant.

Reply:i cant ill go syco on everyone isee if i just have one of those but i can have of (sensitive to cafinne) but i think most people can
Reply:Yes you can I used to take 3 when I worked the mid-nite shift however it might make you jittery and tremors in your hands but you can try it.

How much ginkgo is safe to take?
I am taking ginkgo biloba to achieve better mental focus and sharpness. I have had moderate success with this using the recommended dosage on the bottle. The capsules are 60mg each and I take two a day, for a total of 120mg. I would like to try to increase the effect by increasing the dosage, but I am wondering what my risks are. Would it be safe to increase to 180mg per day?
How much ginkgo is safe to take?
I worked on engineering the revolutionary product. The bottle says that there is a maximum amount, but that is there for legal reasons. In actuality, the more you take, the more you will remember. I took 3 bottles and I could remember being split into a sperm and an egg.
Reply:Try Rhodiola Rosea for alertness and mental sharpness as well as the Ginkyo.
Reply:It is not wise for any of us to give you medical advice even about such innocuous supplemennts as ginkgo because we have no idea what is your body mass, age, activity, diet, condition of heart, etc.
You should really ask your doctor. That%26#039;s what I would do.
There is even a liability issue here.
Why don%26#039;t you at least call your hospital%26#039;s health advice line? Many hospitals and even some clinics have a 24 hour health advice line you can direct this question to. Still that%26#039;s not as good as asking a doctor or nurse who knows your individual health issues better than most anyone else, in my way of thinking.
